The newly created Meta-Research Centre (MRC) at the University of Wroclaw, led by Dr Bartosz Helfer https://tinyurl.com/4d2284e9 is currently looking for three full-time postdoctoral researchers and two PhD candidates.
The Meta-Research Centre conducts impactful science (see our publications in top medical and mental health journals) in evidence synthesis and evaluation across several disciplines (medical and health sciences, mental health) and its current special focus is on clinical trials in infant nutrition and mental health. Currently the MRC is generously funded until 2026 by grants from the Excellence Initiative and the National Science Foundation.
An ideal candidate has a working knowledge of systematic reviews and meta-analyses and is ready to learn newest methods in the field (e.g. risk of bias, conflict of interest assessment, challenges specific for clinical trials in neglected fields) as well as to contribute to development of new ones (e.g. detection of scientific misconduct).
We expect high level of engagement and contribution to ongoing projects within the Centre (each researcher will be responsible for at least one of the MRC projects, some of the current projects focus on assessment of clinical trials of infant formula, SARS-CoV2 transmission or its influence on mental health, Cochrane reviews on treatment of schizophrenia, replicability crisis in psychology). Post- docs will also be encouraged to develop their own research agenda and are expected to apply for additional funding.
Daily key research tasks for these posts correspond to different states of evidence synthesis and include: searching scientific literature, study selection, data extraction, evaluation of data and study quality, data analysis and writing research manuscripts for publication. These are research positions without teaching duties.
One post-doc position and one PhD position are part of an NCN-funded psychological science project investigating transparency, integrity and independence of clinical research within psychology and mental health, including innovative treatments for ADHD or effectiveness of psychotherapies.
For post-doc positions we welcome applications from candidates with PhD (including recently obtained; or Master’s degree for PhD candidates) from any related discipline, especially, but not limited to: statistics, epidemiology, public health, evidence-based practice (including any allied health professions), research methods, evidence synthesis, psychology, cognitive science, medicine, mental health, nutrition, health/ research ethics, etc.
For post-docs we offer a competitive salary at the highest rate allowed by the NCN, which is currently at the level of 120 000 PLN per year (including taxes and full employer costs), which translates to around 6000 PLN monthly net salary. After a trial period the employment is possible until the end of 2025. For PhD candidates we offer a fully-funded PhD position as the Doctoral School and full scholarship according to regulations at the time of enrolment.
Additionally, we offer excellent scientific development opportunities including mentoring, fully reimbursed participation in scientific conferences, specialized courses and access to a large international network of collaborators from top scientific institutions worldwide (Cochrane, Imperial College London, TUM Munich, University of Colorado, King’s College London and more).
